We had lots of tomatoes this summer even though they were not too sweet, they really tasted like real ones.

「トマト料理」この夏はよくトマトを食べた。熊本はトマトの出荷量が全国１位だが、最近トマトは冬の方が美味しい。夏のトマトは普通に素朴で美味しいもの。沢山頂いた。

Minami Aso

I took my nephews to Minami Aso Green pia.  This hotel has a great Onsen but they have outdoor athletics for kids.  I could also enjoy the beautiful view of the mountain.

「南阿蘇」８月末を連れてグリーンピアのアスレチックで遊んだ後に温泉に入るという予定で訪れた。私が子供の頃からあるホテル。懐かしい思い出があるし、今もよく手入れされている。景色がよくて大人も癒される。温泉も眺めが良くておすすめ。

The end of summer with my nephews

 

My nephews came to stay with us for ten days at the end of their summer vacation.  I've tried my best to entertain them in Kumamoto.  It was fun and also demanding to deal with two boys because I'm not used to it.  I wish I could do more but it was an absolutely amazing experience.

「甥との夏休み」夏休みの後半に甥っ子がやってきた。コロナになって２年、何処にも行っていなく、都会で息の詰まる思いをしているのかと思うと、私の出来る事で楽しい思い出を作ってあげたいと思い一緒に色んなことをした。

天然水プール、ボウリング、アスレチック、温泉、たこ焼き、手巻き寿司、ゲームセンター、花火、かき氷など。毎日何かしたつもり。だけど今思えばもっといい所に連れて行ってあげたかった。何はともあれ楽しい思い出に感謝。

Walking in the rain

 

I don't hate rain unless it's too much.  I haven't been able to take a long walk during the heavy rain so I went there anyway when it stopped for a while.

「雨の中の散歩」８月の雨は長く、運動不足になっていたので雨の合間でも散歩に出かけていた。江津湖の水嵩が随分と上がっていた。

Heavy rains in August

 

It's my memory of heavy rain in August in Kyushu.  It continued for about two weeks in August.

「８月の豪雨」８月半ばは毎日恐ろしいほど雨だった。その記録の一部。１０日くらい毎日豪雨で青い空の晴れ間が見られたのも２週間くらい経っていた。

Sunflower

 

One day I've found a huge sunflower at my bus stop.. on the bus stop? Yes, my bus stop has a good size flower bed where someone is growing flowers.

「向日葵」バス停に咲いていた向日葵。バス停にひまわり？と思われるかもしれないが、ある公的機関の前のバス停に大きな花壇があり、そこにいつも季節の花が栽培されている。どなたかかが考えられて花壇をされているのだと思う。ありがたい。

A super clear evening in August

 

It was on 5th August that day, the air was so crisp and hot that I needed to run to the lake in the evening to take photos.  It was different from any other day in the summer.

「８月５日」この日は朝から特に空気が澄み渡った感じがあったので夕方絶対にこの日のショットを逃したくないと思い散歩に出かけた。案の定、どんな日とも違う空気と空で、普段の風景がとんでもなく美しく見えた。見慣れた風景でもその日の空気の状態でこれほど美しく見えるものなんだ！という発見。

自然には計画性が無い。ある程度の天気の予想はされていてもその日がどんな空になり、どんな風景を描くか分からない。だから面白いし、美しい日を体験するとありがたいと思う。

Myojin Soba

This is one of the best Soba shops in Aso.  It became so popular in the region that you might have to wait if you came in a good time.

「明神そば」白水の人気の蕎麦屋。白水には明神、ほおずき、日出やと３大美味しい蕎麦屋があるが、明神そばは人気が高く、待ち時間が長いのだが、タイミングが良ければ着席できる。

久木野そばに出汁が肥後風？というか鰹の酸味の効いた塩出汁のそば。関東の醤油ではない独特な出汁で、蕎麦がその出汁をよく吸う。独自の美味しさがあってまた食べたくなる。パンチがあるトッピングも好き。お漬物なども美味しい。

Aso in early August

 

My joy is to drive myself alone to the mountains or to the sea these days.  For many years, I was not confident to drive all by myself but finally, I've practice enough to drive long distances.  It's so nice to be alone in the mountain.

「８月の阿蘇」今回は新阿蘇大橋を通って白水方面へ。田んぼが美しい。水が美味しい白水だからこそお米が本当に生き生きしている。
