Myokenura

 

The west coast along Shimoshima of Amakusa has many beautiful views of the cliffs.  I was lucky that the weather was very nice that day.  It was a nice comfortable day.  The East China Sea is blue and very clear which is one of the most beautiful views of the sea in Japan.  I also love the sound of waves that hit the rocks.

「妙見浦」下島のウエストコーストは絶景スポットがいくつかある。妙見浦もここだけでなく、いくつか海に降りて行けるポイントがある。南シナ海は吸い込まれそうな青さ。波の音もいつまでも聞いていられる。

Japanese breakfast

 

I hardly have a Japanese style of breakfast except when I stay in Ryokan.  I particularly love it in this ryokan because it was very simple.  Many places serve too many dishes in the morning but I prefer a simple plate.

「朝ごはん」旅館の朝ご飯は苦手なのだが、今回はシンプルで正に自分好みだった。あまり朝から色々と食べる気がしないので、少量でいい。

この旅館の朝は卵ご飯！それ用の出汁醤油に旨味があり、ご飯が雑炊のような旨味が出る。見た目ほど味が濃くない鯵の味醂干しを添えると本当に美味しい。スルスルと頂いて、美味しかった！

Morning Walk

 

One of the things to do in Shimoda for me is to take a walk in the morning by the sea.  This is such a luxury moment especially when the weather is nice.

「朝散歩」下田に来て好きなことは海を散歩できること。朝の散歩がとても気持ちが良い。朝ごはん前に行くのが楽しみだ。レトロな温泉街だが人々の生活感もそれなりにあり雰囲気がいい。

町の唯一のマートには結構色々売っていて、帰りがけには地物の柑橘類などを買って帰る。この通りを行ったり来たりするのも下田に居る時の楽しみ。通りの公園には足湯もあり、毎朝近所の方足場を高速洗浄器で清掃していらして、きちんと管理されているんだと感心する。

Dinner at Igaya

I chose this Ryokan because it gave me a good impression by looking at their site.  Their rooms are not big but the dinner was surprisingly good.  I loved their simple and delicate style of cooking beyond a wonderful plate of sashimi.

「伊賀屋」前回は”夢ほたる”に泊まったが今回は以前から気になっていたこちらへ。実は予約が通っていなくて一悶着があったが、結局とても良かった。お部屋は典型的な昔の旅館の広さで狭いが、一泊なので問題なし。

お料理は驚くほど美味しかった。刺身と雲丹の美味しさは元より、さっぱりとシンプルな和食は繊細で正に食材の良さを生かす料理だった。地元風の甘い料理ではない。出汁もきちんと取ってある。苓北のレタスを使ったしゃぶしゃぶはレタスの美味しさが格別で驚いた。

下田の良さはお湯の良さもある。お風呂も良かった。また是非行きたい。かなりお気に入り。

The Sunset in Shimoda

The sunset in Shimoda; the west coast of Amakusa Island is the most famous sunset in Kumamoto.  When you think about it, it's rare to find the sun goes down in the ocean if you live in Japan nor anywhere in the world.

Shimoda is my favorite place in Amakusa.  It's an old onsen village.  Most of the Ryokan is old but they serve wonderful sashimi.  Also, the quality of the hot spring is great as well.

「下田の夕日」下田に来たら温泉に入り、日の入りの時間に夕日を眺めに行く。天気の良い日でも雲がかかってしまうのでなかなか綺麗な夕日は見れないが、誰も居ない海岸から見る夕日は何とも言えない絶景だ。海に沈む太陽は日本でもなかなか見ることが出来ない貴重な場所だ。

Amakusa Trip - L'isola Terrace Amakusa

I went to Amakusa in mid-April when Covid was not terrible as now.  It was a nice, cool and clear day in Amakusa; the seaside of Kumamoto.

I was recommended to visit this place but it was a huge surprise to me to see a new trendy complex in such a rural area and they were actually very tasteful and nice.  It resembles Sydney to me.  They have nice cafes, bars and an Oyster BBQ place by the beach.  I didn't expect this place to be so good but actually, they are quite nice!

「天草旅行・リソラテラス」４月半ばに１泊で天草に出かけた。今ほどコロナが酷くなかったので少し遠出をしてみた。大矢野の昔のパール館のところに新しい所が出来たと聞いて立ち寄ってみた。

あまり期待していなかったのでとてもオシャレで驚いた！シドニーのビーチの店を思い出させる様なテラスやカフェがある。海鮮バーベキューの会場もある。安っぽくなく、洗練された雰囲気が良かった。

海に解放されたカフェで、天草塩入りミルクジェラートとチョコレートのジェラートを頂いたが、両方とも美味しかった。建物の中にはお土産屋が色々あり、それほど悪くない。熊本の田舎にこんなに処が出来るなんて思っていなかった。人が少ない平日がおすすめ。

A Nice Walking Day in April

 

It's so nice to take a walk along Ezuko.  I'm lucky that I can go there every day.  Many days in April in Kumamoto are very comfortable.

「散歩日和」４月はまだ暑くなくて散歩が楽しい。水辺が好きなので江津湖にはよく行く。本当に気持ちがいい散歩ができる。

 This is a walkway in the middle of Ezuko where I hardly go through because this part is far from where I walk, but for once I went through, I've found a very nice flower garden.  One woman was taking care of the flower bed and she told me that she is taking care of it as a volunteer.

「江津湖の花壇」４月２１日の風景。江津湖でこの辺りまで来ることがあまりない所なのだが久しぶりに通ったらとても可愛らしく、素敵な花で花壇が埋まっていた。春らしく、また花の組み合わせが西洋的でとてもおしゃれ。

花の手入れをしている方がいらっしゃったので、話かけてみたらその方がボランティアでお花を植えて、手入れされているそうだ。もう少ししたら花の種を取りにきて、また来年のために使われるそう。この様な方がいらして、地域の公園が美しく整えられていてとても嬉しく思うし、感謝している。
