I've found a nice udon place in Kawashiri where is one of the old towns in Kumamoto.   It's a nice place with lots of traditional crafts.

「川尻」川尻は通り沿いの古い街。うどん屋に行って、帰りに工芸館や梅園に寄ってお菓子も買ってきた。うどんはコシのある独特なうどんで美味しかった。出汁もそれなりに美味しい。温かいうどんの方が良い。丼は少し味が濃いが、色んな定食があり美味しそうだった。
