Otaru Canal

I've always thought the view of the canal of Otaru is nice.  I wanted to walk and take more photos but it was too cold to walk further.

Otaru

Otaru is a small town by the Ishikari bay.  It's a small town but it's popular town for tourists with many Sushi bars.  It's a half-hour train ride from Sapporo.  We went there on a very snowy day.  The view of the town was amazing with mounted snow everywhere.  The town is laid on a very sharp slope.  It was amazing how people are driving on the snow there.

「小樽」随分寒い日に行ってきた。全てが雪に埋もれている光景が私には珍しくてとても楽しかった。

Jingisukan - Shirokuma

We went to one of the very famous Jingisukan grills; Daruma in Susukino but there were too many people waiting so we went to another famous one close by, Shirokuma.

The place was very small and smokey but the food was great.  I really love Jingisukan which is lamb grill.  The meat was very tender and the sauce was great too.  We couldn't stay long because of the smoke but I want to come back again.

「しろくま・すすきの」だるまという有名店に行ったら多くの人が並んでいたので、こちらの店に行った。ビルの中の狭い店で煙が立ち込めてすごかったが、とても美味しかった。

私は日本のビールの中でサッポロが一番好きなので、サッポロ生が本当に美味しかった。ラムも柔らかくて臭みが一切なく、つけダレもさっぱりとして美味しかった。適当なハウスワイン（スペイン産）もラムとの相性が抜群。あまり長居できない店だが、また行きたい。

Sapporo at night

Hokkaido is almost a foreign country for me because of its distance from Kyushu.  Hokkaido is very much a new land for Japan because people stated to explore and migrated to there in Meiji period; from 1870.  Before the immigration of Japanese, only Ainu people were living there.

The town and the buildings looked very compact and organized and it was very easy to go around the town.  Because it's cold there you can walk everywhere in the underground path.

「札幌」北海道は明治以降に開拓された新しい土地で、街がモダンだ。道も地下道も合理的に広く動きやすい。地下の広さにも驚いたが、寒い外をわざわざ歩いてみたりした。大通り公園は雪祭りの準備で建設物がたくさんあった。

Sapporo!

I went to Sapporo; Hokkaido with my mother for the sudden occasion.  We went there just to see the mounting snow, to feel the cold weather and have northern delicacies.  It's actually cost some to fly to Hokkaido from Kumamoto.  The flight is much cheaper to go to Asian countries from Kyushu rather than to travel in Japan.  Therefore it was a precious experience for me.  It was a very snowy day when we arrived.

「札幌」母と札幌に行ってきた。暑すぎるシンガポールに帰る前に、極寒を体験したいと思い立って決行した。スキーをする訳でもなく、ただ寒さを体験して雪を見るのと美味しいものを食べる旅。

私にとって熊本から札幌まで乗り換えの時間も含めると、時間も旅費も香港行きより倍くらいかかる贅沢な旅行だ。着いた日は雪がかなり降っていたが観光名所を回った。寒すぎて写真があまり上手く撮れていない。

「的鯛」

We found a supermarket with amazing quality of fish shop inside.  The quality and varieties of fishes are as good as main fish market.  I've found St. Pierre for the first time in Kumamoto.

I cooked as a simple French style; saute with olive oil and made a sauce with bones.  The taste of this fish is very different from any other fish.  It tasted almost like meat.

「マトウダイ」実家から少し距離はあるが、素晴らしい魚屋が入っているスーパーを見つけた。中央市場と変わらない鮮度と種類を取り揃えている魚屋で感激する。そこで熊本では初めて的鯛を見つけた。的鯛は日本ではあまり目立った魚ではないが、フレンチでは最高級魚とされていて、とても人気で高価。

シンプルなフレンチで頂いたが、驚くほど美味しかった。身がしまった上質の白身で、旨味がある。魚の匂いがあまりせず、オリーブオイルでソテーすると肉のような香りがする。骨から取ったソースも旨味が強くてとても美味しかった。
