Minerve

 

We visited the small medieval village on Sunday afternoon.  Everything was closed but there were very few people in the village so it was good to see it around quietly.

「ミネラヴ」家から３０分くらいのところにある中世の村。カタリ派の要塞だったと知られる小さな城砦の村。日曜日に行ったのでお店などは休みだったが人がいなかったのでゆっくり回ってみた。

カタリ派とは１０世紀から１３世紀に現れたキリスト教の異端派の群衆運動で最後は教皇により処刑される。オクシタン地方にはカタリ派の城がいくつもあり、歴史の関わりが深い。村の下には大きな洞窟がある。

Winter Market

 I usually come to France in the summer, so visiting the local market this season was a rare opportunity. I love winter vegetables especially root vegetables. Unfortunately, I had a very slim chance to cook because everything was planned ahead though I had many ideas for cooking.

「冬のマルシェ」冬は出店が少し少ないように思う。フランスにはいつも夏に行くので冬は珍しい野菜が色々あるなと思う。いつも義母が料理しているので、私はする機会がないので残念だが、大好きな根菜などを使った料理を色々と考えたりしていた。

Shrimp lunch

 

I hardly cook shrimp with butter but shrimp cooked in butter with parsley is very delightful.

「エビのランチ」ある日のランチ。茹でたエビをパセリバターで炒めたもの。エビにバターとは日本ではあまり組み合わせないが、フランスぽくて美味しかった。結構どこででもできる料理だと思う。

A day in country side

 

Our day in the South of France is very relaxing.  I wake up early in the morning due to jet lag, then exercise.  Then I work about three hours.  In the kitchen, my mother-in-law started to go shopping for food and prepare lunch around noon.

We eat lunch from 1pm to 2pm then rest.  We go for walking in the afternoon until it gets dark.  Then we rest and prepare for aperitif and dinner from 7pm and have dinner at 8pm.

「南仏の１日」毎日食べるために行動するような生活をしていた。私の１日はこんな感じだった。時差ぼけのために早朝に起きる。エクササイズと身支度をしてその後３時間ほど仕事する。１０時ごろに義母が買い物に行ったりするのでついて行く。１１半ごろからランチの準備。１２時くらいから料理して１時ごろランチ。２時過ぎに片付け終わり、一休み。

その後散歩に出かけて日が暮れると帰る。７時ごろからアペリティフを頂き、夕食準備。８時ごろ夕食。夏だと９時くらいまで明るいので夕方遅くまで出かけられるのだが、冬は家に居る時間が長くなる。毎日こんな感じだから気をつけないとかなり太る。

Morning in the village

 

What a wonderful way to start a day by walking on the cold crisp winter morning in the village and bringing back freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolat.

「村の朝」冬の寒い朝の散歩。静かな朝の村を一周してパン屋さんへ。朝ごはんのクロワッサンとパンオショコラを買いに出かける。焼きたてのパンは最高だ。

Frost

 

When we arrived, one of the mornings was extremely cold with frost.  

「霜」１月の初めは結構寒くて朝から霜が降りていた。一面凍っていて珍しい風景だった。

Auchan

 

I've always been fascinated with the size of supermarkets in the countryside of France.  They're massive and the quality of the product is very high.  Even the store-made food and pastries look so good.  I wish I could spent more time there.

「田舎のスーパーマーケット」フランスの田舎のスーパーの大型店はすごい。店内の肉屋、魚屋、シャキュトリ、チーズカウンターもすごいが、お惣菜やケーキが美味しそうでじっくり見入ってしまった。スーパーでこれだけのクオリティが高いのはヨーロッパでもフランスだけではないだろうか。前菜やグラタン類などもとても美味しいそうだ。
