À toutes les gloires de la France

My friend and I visited Chateau Versailles.  I had visited there almost twenty years ago when I travel to France for the first time.  I've realized many places had restored and cleaned compared to the past.  For the second time, I was extremely impressed with the beauty.

I always thought that the decoration of the rooms is nothing compares to anything in the world.  I personally don't like the extravagant style of decoration but the Versailles is exceptional.  This extreme luxurious decoration is showy but everything is well coordinated.  I especially like the decorations of walls, ceiling and window frames.

"À toutes les gloires de la France" is the words written on the top of pantheon which located right in front of the chateau.  As I was waiting on the line to enter the chateau, they were very impressive to me.

「ヴェルサイユ宮殿」今回２０年振りに訪れてみた。以前より外観の金箔などが張り替えられていたようで、とても綺麗になった感じがした。人が多く、大変な観光地だが、ヴェルサイユの装飾の素晴らしさは世界で唯一無二で、目が眩むほど圧倒される。よくこんなものを造ったものだと驚く。こんなに美しいものは他にない。

その細やかで豪華絢爛な装飾は、これでもか、というほど贅沢に施されたものだが、全てとてもよくコーディネートされていて、嫌らしさを感じない。特に配色が素晴らしい。

標題の言葉は入館を待っている時にとても目についた。宮殿の手前にあるパンテオンに書かれていた言葉。「フランスの全ての栄光のために捧ぐ」という意味で、１８３７年にフランス最後の国王となったルイ・フィリップ一世が宮殿を博物館として残すことを命名した時のものであるそうだ。
