Muswell Hill - Chriskitch

Muswell Hill is a pretty town of North London.  There are many pretty shops in the town.  There is a restaurant called "Chriskitch" and it was surprisingly good.  To me it's very much a English food, but the seasoning was just right.  For the first time this shop made me remind of what is Good English food.

「マズウェル・ヒル」はロンドン北の郊外の少し洒落た町。可愛らしい花屋、小物屋、カード、アートショップなどがある。その界隈にある「クリスキッチ」というカフェがとても美味しかった。

何種ものサラダ、メイン、デザートがあり、その中から選んで自分のプレートを作る。イギリス的な料理で、いい意味で雑っぽい感じだが、サラダのフレーバーの組み合わせなどもよく、味付けが的確でとても美味かった。

Thoughts for English food

There are so many great things in England except for food....  I've never had something wonderful there..  even though I chose a place and they're not bad but never as great as Japan or France.  Though I love going to the Pub because the whole family can go there and enjoy early evening.

「イギリスの食べ物」イギリスには素敵なところ、良いところが沢山あるが、やっぱり食べ物だけはあまり美味しくない。外食は選んで行っても雰囲気が良いところでも、まぁまぁレベル以上はない。手先が不器用なのか、料理がとても雑だ。だが、パブはいつ行って楽しいところだ。子供を連れて行けるので気楽でいい。

Notting Hill - Westbourne

Notting Hill is famous for Portobello street of antique shops but they are a bit crappy to me.  I like the part called "Westbourne grove".  I like there especially for chic interior and furniture shops.  There are some good looking cafes too.

「ノッティングヒル・ウエストボーン」ノッティングヒルはポーテベロストリートにあるアンティークマーケットが有名だが、観光客が多くガラクタが多い。

一本通りを越えると、おしゃれなブティック街になっている。地域的に高級住宅街に面しているので、その界隈のおしゃれな人が多いようだ。ニューヨークで言えばソーホー、東京で言えば南青山のような雰囲気だろうか。

Marylebone

This is one of my favourite district in London.  I don't really shop in London but there are many pretty shops.  I've found that the streets around Marylebone are more interesting than the main street.

「メリルボーン」ボンドストリートの駅から北に伸びる地域がおしゃれで好きだ。可愛らしいショップが並び、天気の良い日はその辺り一体を散歩するのが楽しい。有名なパブやおしゃれなカフェやレストランもたくさんある。

Picnic day

Two weeks in May in London this year has been very warm and sunny.  It doesn't really look too sunny in the photo but this is sunny enough for the London weather.

「ピクニック」今年はロンドンも暑くてとても天気が良かった。写真では曇りっぽいが、ロンドンの天気にしては十分に晴れた方。

Fish BBQ

We've found very reasonable fishmonger in North Finchley so we bought a lot of fish.  I thought sea bass is good for BBQ because this is the BBQ style of my parents in law in France.  It was difficult to adjust the fire but it ended up very tasty grilled fish.

「魚のBBQ」今年は世界中で暑さを記録しているが、ロンドンも異常に暑くて晴れた日が続いた。近所にいい魚屋を見つけたのだが、スズキとタイが６本で１０ポンドという破格だった。新鮮だったので、とりあえず塩をしておいて、週末にBBQをした。

魚のBBQとは珍しいかもしれないが、義理の家ではBBQと言ったら焼き魚なので、スズキを炭焼をしてみた。火加減が難しく、皮目は焦げてしまったが、強火で焼いたのでふっくらと仕上がり、とっても美味しかった。

Liberty

For the first time, I've visited the Liberty department store and I was very impressed with their products.  I'm not a big fan of flower prints but they were so adorable.  There are less and fewer shops to sell sawing materials and fabric these days in the world but this is the most impressive shop I've ever been to.

「リバティ」よく知られた老舗のデパートだが、私は初めて行ってみた。そこは驚きの世界が広がっていた。最上階は生地と手芸用品で埋め尽くされていている。リバティ柄と言われる花柄の生地がとても可愛らしくて魅了された。

フランスや日本でも今は手芸用品、文具、紙、書籍などの商売で生き残ることが難しい。私の印象ではイギリスは今でも良い書店、カードショップ、文具店などが生き残っていると思う。

Tate Britain - Turner collection

J.M.W. Turner is probably the most recognized and appreciated British Romanticist painter.  Tate Britain has the largest collection of Turner's paintings.  I like Turner's colours so I went to see them.

There were some famous pieces but I took photos of something I've never seen in books.  I liked them very much.

「ターナー」は恐らくイギリスでは一番知られていて尊敬されている画家ではないだろうか。絵画の歴史では、ルネサンスはイタリア、写実主義のオランダ、ロマン派から印象派までフランスには世界中の人が知る沢山の傑作があるが、どの時代にもイギリスにはほとんど有名な画家はいない。その中でもターナーはよく知られた画家ではないだろうか。

テート・ブリテンにはターナーのギャラリーがあり、彼の最大のコレクションが観れる。有名な絵は模写する人がいてうまく写真が撮れなかったが、私が好きな絵をいくつか載せる。
