Motomachi

Hakodate is one of the first and ports of Japan when the country opened for the trade after Edo era.  It's not an old city for Japanese history but it has a great history after Meiji.  Motomachi is a town on the side of Hakodate mountain.  It has many churches because there were many foreigners at the time.

「元町」函館は黒船来航の翌年の１８５４年に日米和親条約で開港された港で、異人文化が色濃く残る。建物が日本と西洋の融合した様なものが多くとても可愛らしい。函館山を少し登った所にある元町には教会がいくつもある。

函館の地形はとても素敵だ。海があり、山があり、丘の上の教会があって、人口の少ない時代にはそれは素敵な風景だったことだろうと思う。
