The first day of work

 

We usually have the first three days of January off plus the 30th of December.  In general Japanese people have five days off at the end of the year which is equivalent to the Christmas holidays in the western calendar.  I appreciated it very much my holiday and I felt good going to work in January.

「仕事始め」年末から一連の流れ。大掃除、仕事納め、大晦日、新年、初詣、仕事始め、とあっという間の１週間弱の日々だが、人々が同様ににそう行動するのが日本的であり、国全体がその雰囲気になる。そういう統一感がある意味文化的に貴重な経験だと感じる。

西洋歴で新年をお祝いするのは日本だけだが、現代人は西暦を使っているのだから旧暦でお祝いするより、私はこちらの方がスッキリするので好きだ。日本の新年はなぜか本当に心が新たまり、気持ちが良い。
