It was not too cold in December in Kumamoto in the past but it has been very cold recent years.  When the cold days continues, the price of vegetables goes up especially, leaf vegetables.  Yam and other root vegetables are delicious in winter.  We cook a lot of root vegetables in Japanese cooking.

「冬の家庭料理」昔は１２月はそれほど寒くなかったが、近年は熊本でもとても寒くなるらしい。寒い日が続くと野菜の値段が随分高くなる。葉物の野菜があまりよくないので、芋などの根菜をよく料理した。
