Horaku manju

Horaku manju is my favourite cake of Kumamoto.  This is something like sweet beans sandwiched in a pancake.  This traditional dessert is everyone's favourite in Kumamoto but not many people know outside of the city because of it only last one day.  You need to eat them immediately or you can heat it up in the microwave at home but it's truly better to eat within one day.

This type of cake exists in many other places all over Japan but to me, this is so much better than others because of the amount of sweet beans.  It has so much other than any similar cake of other places.  In fact, I was very disappointed when I tried one in Tokyo years ago where people had lined up in a queue but it had half of the beans than this Horaku manju.

「蜂楽饅頭」熊本で一番美味しいお菓子と言えばこれ。ただ、１日しか保たないものなので、お土産にすることが出来ない。東京で言う大判焼きだが、これは違う。あんこに蜂蜜が入っている事と、そのあんこの量が全く違うので、他の地方の大判焼きとは相異なるものだと言いたい。

昔から店頭の様子は同じだが、今回マジマジと観察して、入れるあんこの量に驚いた。ゴッソリ、おばさんの持っているスコップたっぷり入れたあんこを５回くらいで入れ切る。
