Buddism usually celebrates their meal without any animal products but they're not in the strict rule. We usually serve vegetarian meals on the night before and at the breakfast of the funeral but we serve fish and egg products after finishing the 7th day of the funeral.
Japanese are not strict Buddhist but we have a big family gathering in August called "Obon" which is to say that on three days of Obon spirits of the dead are coming back home. So family and relatives gather to have lunch together.
I was very busy at my work preparing lux bento for this occasion. We usually serve Kaiseki at the restaurant however due to the Covid, many orders are replaced with Bento boxes.
