There are some signature dishes in Singapore to celebrate Chinese New Year.  One of the most known dish is called "Yusheng" this is a salad of raw fish.  Family get together and toss the salad with chop sticks at the same time.  It seems like this is very special dish of Singapore.

In Hong Kong where the Canton culture, "Poon choi" is the most common dish.  This is a pot of mix of dried seafoods and some meat.  I actually never had this before but I've seen ads of this dish everywhere before the New Year.


「新年料理」今日は元旦。シンガポールと香港では同じ旧正月でも、お祝いの料理や売っているものが随分異なる印象だ。シンガポールのお祝い料理は、まず「生魚」という料理。これは、いわゆる中華刺身サラダ。大根や人参などの野菜の千切りと福のあるトッピングを並べて、家族全員で箸で混ぜて、その年の願いを唱える。シンガポール華人の独特の料理だそうだ。その他、餃子は元宝に似ていることで、お金を意味するらしく、お正月によく食べるらしい。

香港では、「盆菜」という料理をよく見た。これはおそらく、乾物をよく食べる広東の文化だと思うが、戻した乾燥海産物（牡蠣、アワビ、ホタテ）や、鴨のローストなどを一緒に鍋で煮込んだ煮物。実際に食べたことはないが、新年近くになると、レストランやスーパーの広告がこの料理一色だった。高級品が沢山入っているので、結構な値段だ。その他は、大根餅やタロイモで作った餅もよく売られていた。
