Aqueduct of Segovia

Segovia is known for this Roman Aqueduct.  It was really astonishing.  First, I was surprised by its size!  How tall they are!  The construction began in the 1st century and it is continued to be reconstructed until 1985.  I've read in Wiki that the bridge was actually carrying water until mid 19th century.

For us as Japanese where the earthquake occurs everywhere in any moments of our lives, it looked very scary... I felt like it might fell over me any minutes..

「ローマ時代の水道橋」バスに１０分強乗ると、セゴヴィアの旧市街の入り口に着いた。乗ってて分かったが、土地にかなり起伏があるので、高速列車の駅は遠くになったのだろう。セゴヴィア自体は結構人口がある街で、団地っぽい住宅がたくさんあった。観光地は旧市街。

セゴビアはこのローマ時代の水道橋で有名な街。ウィキによれば、１世紀ごろに建築が始まり、完成後も１５世紀から改修を重ねて、最後の改修は１９８５年に終わったものらしい。何と言ってもその大きさ、高さに驚いた。１９世紀半ばまでは実際に水が流れていて使われていたそうだ。

近代になって改修工事も済んでいるので、中には針金でも入っていると思うが、地震大国の日本人から見ると、今にも震度２くらいでパタッと倒れて来そうでドキドキする。。
