Enryakuji - Hieizan

 

Since we were staying at Yase where is the east side of Kyoto and the bottom of Hiei mountain, I wanted to visit this famous temple called "Enryakuji".  This temple has been a big role throughout the history of Japan so I wanted to visit here for once.

I probably come here before when I was a student because I had a mere memory.  Unfortunately, the main temple "Konponchudo" was under renovation and it had been covered for many years.

「比叡山・延暦寺」八瀬は比叡山のふもとにあるので、よかったら延暦寺まで行きたいと無理を言って連れて行ってもらった。最澄が開いた延暦寺と比叡山は度々焼き打ちされたりと歴史的に重要な寺なのでとても興味があった。

おそらく修学旅行で来たことがあるような、薄い記憶があるが、こんなに山の山頂にあるものだと初めて自覚した。しかもとても寒い。途中の展望台からは琵琶湖がよく見えた。残念ながら「根本中堂」は改装中で、あと数年かかるように書いてあったように思う。中は薄暗く、とても趣があり素晴らしい。
