This is a shellfish that is called "Kokai" in Kumamoto. I believe that this is from the local sea. There are similar ones in Hokkaido Tsubugai but this one is bigger but the flesh is harder.
「甲貝」これは地元では甲貝と言われるもので、つぶ貝より大きめの貝。味はつぶ貝だが肉質が硬い。少しレモンをかけると柔らかくなって美味しい。最近よく土曜に田崎市場に出かけている。
