I suspect that this Locomotive trains in the local line are dumped in the water, so as for many lives in the area of Hitoyoshi. The river and the water broke so quickly up to 3 meters in the midnight that people didn't have time to escape.
I'm deeply sorry for lives that lost in this disaster and they continue to suffer because the rain which doesn't stop. In this region, half of one year amount of rain fell in one week where Japan is already very rainy country. How could anyone prevent climate like this? or protect yourself against it.
It's very easy to say that "You shouldn't live in such rural area" but I don't think those people chose themself to live in such places but they're born there so they continue to live where they are.
「人吉洪水被害」今回の洪水の被害は甚大で、洪水は地震より恐ろしいと感じている。熊本県南部から鹿児島にかけて、この時１週間で年間降水量の約半分の雨量があったと言われている。あっと言う間に川が氾濫して２階建ての家も水没しているので、街が３メートルくらいの高さの水に飲まれたということだろう。
夜中だったので誰が避難する余地があったのだろうか。その前にしても毎日どしゃぶり大雨の中、避難する時を、いつのタイミングで見極めるべきであったのだろうか。
人吉市は市街地が全て水没し、上記写真のSL車両はもとより、焼酎の酒蔵、国宝の神社、温泉街など多くの人が全てを失っているのではないだろうか。とても心が痛む。地震は大波が何回も来るものではないと分かっているが、雨は今も降り止まない、いつかは止むとしても。
この災害に”そもそもそんな山間の田舎に住むべきではない”、と言う都会の論客の意見も分からなくもない。しかし人は昔からそこに生まれたから、其処に住んでいる。球磨川に関しても、これほど異常気象になるまでは問題無かったし、近年の急な気候変動は誰も予想していなかった。
