Hitoyoshi - Kumamoto

I feel awful about the massive flooding in the South of Kumamoto where Kumagawa River flooded in several regions.  Hitoyoshi is one of the old and small nice town in Kumamoto which has some traditional houses and temples.  They got hard hit with this flooding.  Japan has a tremendous amount of beauty of nature and traditions but it also hit hard with natural disasters.

「人吉」２日ほど前の球磨川氾濫で多くの死者が出ている模様で大変。人吉の街も冠水だそうだ。熊本の南にある球磨川流域の町や村はとても田舎だが、山が深く自然に溢れた所。熊本の山は阿蘇だけではなく、南の方に行くとさらに広くて深い。

球磨川は所々流れが激しくて有名な川だが氾濫することは滅多にない様に思う。近年の日本の集中豪雨は予測不能で本当に恐ろしい。写真は２０１２年に旅行した時の人吉の国宝「青井阿蘇神社」
